Personal SLD proposal - a Clarification

Three matters have come to my attention which I feel I should clarify, further to some correspondence recently received:

  1. Many of the thoughts in my proposal are not original - they've been floating around in the ether for a while. For instance, the concept of allowing registrations of domain names with dots was mentioned recently on this list, in a recent submission for a .nom to ICANN (http://www.icann.org/tlds/nom1/), and those with long memories like me can perhaps remember this even from pre-NOMINET days.

I am *not* attempting to claim credit for these ideas. Nor do I believe others who might have similar proposals (past, present or future) based on these ideas are unfairly copying my ideas. I was simply trying to herd together a number of concepts already in the public domain, and provide a little (original) glue of my own to make them stick together.

Apologies to anyone for any impression given to the contrary.

  2. The 'copyright' statement was merely an attempt to stop people ripping off the *text* of the document. The ideas / business processes themselves are pretty much in the public domain, can't be protected by copyright anyway, etc. etc.

  3. I am aware of more than one other party looking to put forward an SLD proposal. I think competition in proposals is healthy. I have nothing to gain from one proposal being selected over another, so let the best proposal (or some mix between them) win.
